I find often that facts about oil focus on cars. As a non-driver, I need some numbers that hit closer to home and encompass the full picture of transportation. Because I take public transit nearly every day, I liked reading the Environmental Defense Fund’s Transportation by the Numbers, which I just came across. Through this list I found that 20% of America’s public transit agencies are cutting services due to budget constraints. And that there has been a 44% increase in the price of diesel fuel paid by public transit agencies. And, 96% of the world’s transportation energy is currently supplied by oil. That one made me say “wow.” See the full list here.
