Jonny Copp “Humble Beginnings” print by artist + elephriend Janet Guenther.

Jonny Copp was one of elephant and my favorite colleagues and personal idols. We were all devastated by his and his climbing partners Micah Dash and Wade Johnson’s death, doing what they loved, last year. This print, by longtime acquaintance Janet Guenther, ably commemorates the spirit that imbued Jonny’s whole life: adventure.

He told me many times, as did his mom, about his early years bouncing around in a makeshift crib in the back of his parents’ van as they all together toured the whole wide world when he was just an infant. His journey never altered course—for the rest of his strong life he was generous, frank, loving and compassionate. And fun. ~ed.
