Ten years ago, the world’s leaders agreed to eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) as a global initiative to eradicate poverty by 2015. While significant advances have been made to fight poverty during this time, the goal aimed at decreasing maternal deaths has fallen far short of where it needs to be.
