Genpo Roshi releases new translation of Kama Sutra. [April Fool’s Day edition]

A scant [year or two or three and] one month after the Venerable Genpo Roshi disrobed due to various scandals related to his behavior with female students, he released this statement.

A Personal Statement from Genpo Merzel.

It is with great sorrow that I needed to disrobe as a Buddhist Priest, however, every crazy cloud has a red thread lining and I was able to take my vast amount of experience in the realm of sensual conquest to compile a new and divergent translation of the Kama Sutra. Unlike previous incarnations of this work this version will truly integrate Soto Zen Buddhist ethics and practice with an interactive 3D video that will prove to launch from where Big Mind petered out.

My actions may have caused a tremendous amount of pain but succeeded in providing the base of research for this current volume – My Magnum Opus. While my behavior was not in alignment with the traditional Buddhist Precepts, I feel that this work will attempt to provide a scope of teachings that new students can explore for generations to come…with me.

With great humility I will continue to work on my research and develop the flexibility that have led me to this recent work. Workshops are always available at a reasonable $5000 a head but STD testing is a pre-registration requirement as are headshots and measurements. I appreciate all the love and support from my students that led to this volume and hope to still make money off of it well into the future.

A recent review of this work was also uncovered from The Zen Studies Society via an anonymous insider and penned by our very own Eido Shimano Roshi.

The galaxy of pleasures in Genpo Roshi’s translation of the Kama Sutra takes you back to the roaring 70’s where sex with students was an integral part of the Zen life and a legitimate avenue to spiritual bliss and achievement. As Genpo states in his introduction: “When the peak of bliss is attained, the morals and ethics vanish but Crazy Wisdom begins to rise. The Roshi and Student cease to be separate entities and lose themselves in the beatitudes of being.” Genpo’s elegant illustrations and pop-ups includes not only the entire sutra, but many free-style verses previously unknown. My personal favorite was the “Roshi Rocker” and the “Bodhidharma Booty Dance.”

Well known as a Dogen Body Practitioner, Genpo uses many body parts previously thought to be under-utilized in zazen. More than just pillow talk, the Kama Sutra according to Genpo is sure to guide future students into powerful and charismatic teachers that will make their own make own mark on their students.

Admittedly, the pages can get sticky and my advance copy has been well used but the images are waxed so rarely is overuse an issue.  While parts can be viewed as chauvinistic, bizarre, and even violent at times, the overall volume is sure to be a Western Zen staple along with Suzuki Roshi’s “Zen Mind, Beginner’s Behind”,  Kapleau Roshi’s “The 12 Inches of Zen” and “Zen Flesh, Zen Boner.” Genpo is careful to point out, however, that the work is in constant revision and he is always requiring new, young and nubile practitioners to help him on his way.
