At elephant we’re big believers in the importance of getting kids outdoors, which is why we’re excited about Warm Current.
In 2008, a few friends with a passion for surfing noticed the disparity between themselves and other surfers of the local community, especially youth, so they decided to do something about it.
Upon returning home from their travels, the group began collecting used wetsuits and other gear to give to the community that allowed them to access the once inaccessible waves in their own backyard.
What started as a simple idea to get youth out on the water has turn into a full-blown nonprofit with a mission to teach, inspire and support underserved communities and youth through surfing.
To further that mission, Warm Current is now launching a creative new fundraising campaign, called Faces of Warm Current. Between now and July 31, 2011 for only $5 you can purchase a square containing a message or photo that will populate a “Faces of Warm Current” mosaic on the side of the kids surf camp trailer. Then it will be taken to various kids’ surf camps, up and down the West Coast for years to come.
“Simply asking for money is something we’ve never done and frankly something we feel to is the least interesting thing we can do. We’re asking our community to be a part of the solution, to join the movement, not to blindly make a donation. If someone can’t volunteer or share their equipment, then they can leave us a message or photo on the side of our trailer and still be involved in our kids surf camps,” says Warm Current cofounder John Koenig.
Some good stuff here, so get involved in a creative campaign and support a great cause. Because who doesn’t want more kids getting to enjoy the great outdoors?
