Note: elephantjournal.com received this body butter for free, in return for a guarantee that we would review said offering.  That said, we say what we want—good and bad, happy and sad.

You  may or may not know that it’s the blend of base oils that provides the cornerstone to any moisturizer, be it for face or body. Single oils just don’t penetrate the intercellular matrix of the skin nearly as well as good blends. That’s why there exist ancient recipes for moisturizers that blend multiple oils together for maximum moisturization; they knew this fact way back when. And the higher quality each single oil is, the better the blend will be.

The Boulder-based natural skincare company, suuthe by mari gets this in spades. They have chosen to forego a vegan label (exclusively plant-based) for the less popular option of including an animal-based ingredient: emu oil (which, by the way, is domestically produced and custom refined .)

This decision was made after much trial and error to produce a formula that would work for extreme skin conditions, such as chronic acute eczema (read more about the origin story of the brand here.) The resulting blend is so rich and moisturizing you’d be hard pressed to find a patch of skin that wouldn’t be soothed and smoothed by it. Then there’s the healing blend of essential oils they add to the mix. Voila, the perfect body butter! It’s expensive, but:

This body butter is so creamy that my best friend wants to rename it “Body Gelato”, and my pedicurist said she’d never felt legs so smooth on a woman my age.

That was all the feedback I needed to call it a favorite!

So, What’s in it?

  • Pure Emu Oil
  • Shea Butter
  • Organic Olive Oil
  • Sweet Almond Oil
  • Apricot Kernel Oil
  • Beeswax
  • Water
  • Essential Oils: Lavender, Lemon, Chaomile Flower Extract-German Blue
