This is #19 of 108 Ways to Livin the Moment. Let’s take back our lives one beautiful, funny and delicious moment at a time.
#19 of 108: Make an Offensive Play…Every Day.
“Hail Mary full of grace
Our Lord is with thee”
In a 1975 NFL playoff game, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Roger Staubach (a Roman Catholic) said about his game-winning touchdown pass to wide receiver Drew Pearson, “I closed my eyes and said a Hail Mary.”
Little did Staubach know that kids on playgrounds near and far would utter those words forever more… “Hail Marrrrrrry!”
It’s not just kids.
For everyone…the big downfield play is a glorious way to start your day.
Most of us wake up and get right on email dealing with little bits of information and annoying minutiae.
Instantly, your mind is in defensive mode, like a hockey goalie trying desperately not to let anything get past you. And that sets the tone for the rest of the day.
It’s no wonder that “technostress” and “information technology rage” are increasingly relevant terms in the medical world.
Remember when you were a kid and just for kicks (literally), you would boot or throw a ball as far as you possibly could?!
Let’s uphold that tradition.Photo: Ed Yourdon
When you wake up, before you get on email, start with a huge offensive mental play and think the biggest, juiciest, most awesome thought possible…
And remember, the Hail Mary is not so much about completing the play as it is about rearing back and letting ‘er rip!
Imagination is powerful in ways that are impossible to fathom. Don’t try to understand. Just do it!
As Einstein said, “Your imagination is your preview of life’s coming attractions.”
Become a Momenteer.
For the past several months, I have been asking those of you interested in starting a little revolution to become a Momenteer.
As our world becomes more advanced and more high-tech, there has to be a group of people (maybe you?) who advocate for the present moment, the simple pleasures, the importance of making humanity more important than technology.
And hey, this is not that we stop using technology. But that technology stops using us.
To find out how you can save a seat on the ark and become a Momenteer, email [email protected] and write Momenteer! in the subject line.
My new book contains 108 suggestions for creating moments of joy, passion, laughter, deliciousness, and naughty delights. It inspires you to become a Momenteer.
