So you’ve probably heard that Mickey owns Jar Jar—as in, Disney has purchased the Star Wars franchise from George Lucas.
That has brought joy and sorrow to fans and fanboys alike. More movies will be made and Lucas will stop meddling with the first six, but who knows how these new films will come out.
Now comes news that the Avatar sequels will be made with solar power.
James Cameron, the director behind the first amazing environmental Avatar movie, has installed almost 3,700 solar modules on the rooftops of his production studios in California.
The panels are designed to provide 960 kilowatts of sun power for Lightstorm Entertainment Inc., and make Avatar 2 and 3 the first (and second) solar-powered major film productions, according to installer Stellar Energy.
This brings us to Disney, which has recently branched out to Disneynature and released films like Chimpanzee.
What’s the plot of the next Star Wars? Instead of snoozy back stories on politics and trade routes, how about one on alternative energy? Like a race to install space-based solar power? You can use the solar to power a Death Star if you want, but at least make the power renewable.
Just a wild idea.
Not as wild: Seeing Disney follow Cameron’s lead and make the new Star Wars using the big one in the sky.
