The 2014 Yoga List: What’s In & What’s Out?

If there’s one thing the yoga community has learned this past year, it’s that some things are best kept zipped.

Yoga luminaries who have made a living (and one too many blogs) on treating students as commodities, sexual or otherwise: your time is over.

Students have woken up and smelled the turmeric. They are no longer impressed with yoga superstardom and overpriced yoga pants. We prefer our neighborhood studio and the teachers who know us by name. We have no use for labels and, moving forward, the only hybrids we’ll tolerate are the ones we can drive.

That’s why 2014 will be dedicated to the teachers without YouTubes; teachers who serve our local communities and neither wander nor lust. This year we will celebrate the understated and devoted teachers whose selfies don’t appear on #IG and couldn’t care less about hashtags.

The few. The humble. The teachers.
