“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.”
Lately I have been experimenting a life without caffeine. Not easy that’s for sure, but it’s possible and completely sweet to fuel and feel energized without it—eventually. As a busy yoga teacher who teaches the very earliest morning classes and likes to work out, I am constantly on the hunt to find ways to fuel my body and feel good for extended periods.
I know many people struggle with this very same thing—trying to find ways to fuel and feel good—not having to rely on caffeine to get them through.
I offer a way to end this struggle and, as a result, save the world by eliminating the 3pm slump. With these little protein balls, we can offer ourselves the chance to be sustainably happier people—most of the time.
This quick and easy recipe, that requires no oven, will give us the energy tools to handle many tasks, such as, being alert for mid-day meetings, being full of life for family and friends and being ready to energetically do some after-work exercise.
These very acts, performed awake and full of life, alone will save the world as it will decrease reactivity and add more positivity! Are we seeing the same world now?
Okay, I digress…
Let me reveal the recipe:
>>1/2 cup rolled oats
>>1/2 cup unsweetened coconut
>>3/4 cup almond butter
>>1/2 cup ground flaxseed or chia seeds or both
>>1/2 dried fruit (raisins, dried cranberries or dates)
>>1/2 cup Almonds
>>1/2 cup Walnuts
>>1/2 cup Sunflower Seeds
You can add whatever nuts that tickle your fancy. And you don’t need to add coconut or the dried fruit if you are looking for something less sweet. Sometimes I go without the rolled oats, too. Depends on what I have in stock. No rules! Add whatever you want!
Mix well and roll into balls.
You might have to dampen your hands every so often to roll ingredients.
Refrigerate for an hour or so (or eat right away!)
This snack can last up to a week or longer depending on how you contain it—-extend life in the fridge. Depending the on the size ball, the calorie count will vary but should generally be in the 120-140 calorie zone.
Take an extra two minutes at the grocer to pull ingredients together and then another 10 minutes at home to put together! We are superheroes of our own lives and have the ability to save our own worlds one ball at a time.
