There’s a great deal of controversy currently surrounding the Washington Redskins, an American football team.

The controversy stemming from the team’s offensive name. Native Americans have been complaining, for quite some time now, that the term “redskin” is disparaging.

Multiple lawsuits have been filed, and finally action was taken when the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office voted to cancel the Redskins trademark.

However, the team’s owner, Dan Snyder, stubbornly refuses to change the team’s name.

Adding to the buzz surrounding this controversy, the Comedy Central show Southpark  recently poked some fun s upcoming new season.

(What’s even funnier is that this promo was aired in Washington DC, during a fourth quarter commercial break of a Philadelphia Eagles-Washington Redskins game.)

But the comedy doesn’t stop there!

Now Jon Stewart (with the help of correspondent Jason Jones) has addressed the ongoing controversy in a Daily Show segment that includes opposing views, between a panel of Native Americans and a panel of die-hard Washington Redskins football fans.

While the clip below is hilarious, a clear point is made in traditional, poignant Daily Show  fashion.
