The Tricks & Treats of Halloween. {Funny Videos}

We all loved Sia’s Chandalier. I mean, come on, it’s an amazing song. And the music video took it to a whole other level.

Well, here to take it to yet another level (although of a very different kind), is Jim Carrey and SNL. Watch it for yourself and see if you can stifle the giggles!

Comedy like this is certainly one of the treats of the season, but in true Halloween style, it also comes with some tricks.

Halloween can be a great time for fun and games, creative costumes, fun recipes involving pumpkin, etc. But Halloween also tends to be a time of year that can bring our culture’s racist and sexist tendencies out from the shadows and into the light.

I know Halloween is kinda all about venting what’s dark and evil in a contained way. We dedicate one night out of the year to demons and ghosts so that the rest of the year we can ignore them happily. But sexism and racism don’t play by those rules. They’re pretty much around all the time in one shady way or another.

Sadly, Halloween’s tradition of making female costumes ridiculously risqué and reducing rich cultures to a caricatured costumes in a game of dress up, doesn’t seem to be fulfilling the role of letting society purge those feelings so that the rest of the time we can go back to being all equal and respectful of each other.

I’ll let this video speak for me:

I mean seriously! Look at those costumes. They’re absurd. But they’re not that far from the images of hyper-sexualized women that we every day in advertising. So, where’s the catharsis that’s supposed to come with this holiday? It feels to me like it’s really just exacerbating the issue.

And for the issue of race, I’ll leave it to TheKatsMeoww to explain that one:

Now, do you feel ready to go out and have a happy, fun and mindful Halloween? I know I do.
