If You Want to Change Something.

If you want to change something, change the way you see it.

Your life is not a perfect, clear grid like the organized boxes of a net—predetermined and ordinary. Instead, it is a magnificent web of relationships—with yourself, the people around you, and the universe.

Maintaining a healthy connection with yourself and the world can sound daunting and impossible…but feeling disconnected and unsatisfied is an indication that you’re not fulfilling the potential of these bonds. You cannot call someone a friend and never try to deepen or push the limits to greater happiness with them.

Love is not a label to feel locked into—it is quite the opposite.

Jiddu Krishnamurti said:

“Freedom and love go together. Love is not a reaction. If I love you because you love me, that is mere trade, a thing to be bought in the market; it is not love. To love is not to ask anything in return, not even to feel that you are giving something—and it is only such love that can know freedom.”

Love is letting go of the idea that you are just one single entity—because we are all part of something bigger and uncontrollable. You can see your connections with people as being individual and separate, which sounds as fragile and weak as dust in the wind. Or you can think of them all as roots, spread out infinitely yet always leading back to the same beautiful, resilient tree of life.

John Green said it well: “Our roots are so interdependent that no one is dead as long as someone is still alive.”

Some people may destroy what we know, only for us to be free to move on and shine our light in different places. We should never fear the unknown, but instead let the endless opportunities fuel our passion for life—may it feed our innermost desires and dreams.

If you want to change something, change the way you see it.
