Colorado passes “Green Roof Movement” Law.

Colorado Governor, John Hickenlooper, passed emergency legislation today.

He effected a law mandating all new buildings or remodels to including a roof with a garden or solar panels.

France passed a similar law, March 20, 2015, stating that all new commercial construction to incorporate solarvoltaics and/ or a garden.

France had a great idea and Colorado is stepping right in line behind them.

Hickenlooper used France as inspiration but takes it one step further to include the stipulation that all new and remodeled residential have a rooftop garden or solar panels.

“Colorado is the sunniest state in the nation. We want to lead the fight to incorporate practical solutions to climate change.” ~ Gov. John Hickenlooper

It’s being called the “Green Roof Movement.”

What about legally growing marijuana in Colorado on the roof?

The law addresses this concern as well, emphasizing that only 6 plants per adult over the age of 21 years is permitted. No outdoor roof access is stipulated for marijuana growers.

New construction is phase one. By 2030, the goal is to have a rooftop garden or solar panels on every roof in the state.

When all of the roofs in the state have solar panels installed, if will offset 30% of the electricity needs.

Colorado is paving the way to sustainable energy production. We’re hoping that the rest of the states will fall in line.

Happy April Fools’ Day!
