In the End, We Failed. {Adult}

In the end, we failed.

The unbreakable bond between our hearts dissolved.
The perfect promises cried out in moments of sublime ecstasy from our sweaty, exhausted bodies
Were no longer upheld.
We stopped trying.

In the end, we failed.
Our hearts were frozen shut and stubborn, like pouting children.
We stopped giving, caring, kissing.
Coldness fell upon the room whenever you’d touch me,
Ice where there was once fire,
Aching emptiness where there was once juicy, blooming joy.

In the end, we failed.
The sturdy foundation we thought we’d built was shattered, by our own two hands.
All that remained was bittersweet wreckage
Two strangers sleeping side by side
With tears and tension between them.

In the end, we failed.
I’m grateful we failed.

As failure braided its way through the seams of our withering love,
It forced us to be more truthful, braver in baring our souls.
We didn’t give up.
Pushing through our fears and doubts, parting the seas of our stubbornness and selfishness,
We blossomed all over again, in a field of brutal honesty,
And together, with naked hearts, we forged a brand new beginning.

Our once-perfect love lies shattered in messy pieces, on the floor.
I’m grateful.
Because now, I look into your dark brown eyes, and you meet my gaze, subtly yet intensely,
And I see you,
I see you
For real.

In the end, we failed, my love.
But this failure,
It wasn’t our ending.
Not even close.
