Dolphin Therapy.

The human fascination with dolphins and their magical powers is nothing new.

Ancient Greek gods like Poseidon, Aphrodite and Dionysus exalted dolphins as rescuers of humans, and since then we have imbued them with all kinds of healing abilities.

Whether they are magical or not, anyone who has ever interacted with dolphins will know how much fun it is to swim with these wonderful, playful creatures.

But do dolphins have amazing healing powers, as some people claim? Or is their ability to heal us simply another myth?

According to Dr. Laurance Johnston, PhD. of Northwestern University and Dr. Russell Bourne, PhD., hypnotherapist and world leader in dolphin therapy research, there is overwhelming evidence that dolphins do have an innate power to heal us on a deep level.

But how do they do it?

It’s all about the sound frequency they emit. Playful dolphins emit sounds at a variety of frequencies. However, there is one sound with a frequency of 8 HZ, which is inaudible to humans but present in the harmonic frequency of the earth, and simulates a meditative state in the human brain.

This frequency is said to bring about a state in which the two hemispheres of our brains are in alignment with each other and with our biomolecular system, resulting in instant improvement in mental and physical balance, and the release of stress.

Science aside, I decided to try it for myself, and I can say that the benefits go way beyond a simple release of stress. The feeling could best be described as a mild euphoria, whose after-effects included profound feelings of self-love and acceptance, inner joy and peace, a greater sense of playfulness and a deeper sense of connection to nature.

There have also been claims of people learning to let go of fear, feeling more harmony in their personal relationships, healing on an emotional, mental and spiritual level and developing their psychic abilities or even their ability to manifest their deepest desires.

I can’t personally vouch for all of these, and people who claim such benefits may have had repeated exposure to dolphins, but given the intense harmony with oneself and nature that occurs as a result of swimming with these creatures, there could indeed be some truth to these claims.

Of course, critics argue that it is wrong to keep dolphins in captivity, but there’s nothing stopping you from finding retreats or centers that allow you swim with wild dolphins in their natural surroundings.

There are also the skeptics who say that most of what we believe about the healing power of dolphins is simply myth—nothing more than a placebo effect that wears off long after the dolphin experience has passed.

This may be, but I for one can vouch for the amazing feeling of togetherness with nature that I felt while swimming with them, and for the profound sense of inner peace and joy that I felt for days after the experience. This seems to be consistent with scientific evidence that sound—particularly that emitted at the dolphin sonar frequency—does heal us on a profound level.

Even if it doesn’t hold the key to curing cancer, swimming with dolphins in the ocean is an experience that everyone should try once, if only because the joy and playfulness of these wonderful creatures is contagious, and you’ll have an experience to remember, which will cheer you up even on your worst days.
