You know those (in)famous nudey Pirelli Calendars? There’s something different about the new 2016.

The joke’s on us: Amy Schumer is the lone nude “model,” joking that she didn’t get the memo about this year’s calendar shift.

“When discussing the fact that Schumer is one of the only women to pose naked for the shoot, Leibovitz said…” <> ED

“The most fundamental aggression to ourselves, the most fundamental harm we can do to ourselves, is to remain ignorant by not having the courage and the respect to look at ourselves honestly and gently.”
~ Pema Chödrön

She got the whole concept completely. She’s so bright. She was willing to play that role. I was worried for her, I said ‘Are you self-conscious?’ [Amy] said, ‘Are you kidding? I love my body.’

Modeling Has Made Me Stronger.

Every year, Pirelli releases a private calendar featuring naked, provocative young models. This year’s edition is just out, and something’s different.

“Patti Smith in the Pirelli 2016. Word. And Shirin Neshat + Aggie Gund. Word + word.” ~ my girlbuddies

For the first time ever, the Pirelli calendar is holding up “Sheros,” women known for their brilliance and accomplishments, not just for their 18-year-old model nudity. For all the photos, click the NY Times link above.

Every year, Italian tire company Pirelli releases a wildly NSFW calendar of basically naked models shot by a huge name. Last year, Steven Meisel gave us one of the most shocking editions yet (see it here), and in their grand tradition, Pirelli is set to shock us yet again. However, this time, the shock isn’t the NSFW factor, but its remarkably SFW nature, shot by photography legend Annie Leibovitz. She puts it quite simply: “This calendar is so completely different. It is a departure. The idea was not to have any pretense in these pictures and be very straightforward.” Based on these behind-the-scenes photos, we can’t disagree. Leibovitz further explains that she wanted to create a classic set of portraits of “women who have achieved something…” <> GQ
