The Beauty in a Stranger.

Flickr/Vincent Albanese

I am a watcher.

My poetic mind delights in the beauty that I see, before I even know a person—and the fact that maybe I never will.

I sit in a room of absolute strangers. I’m in a grocery store at 4:30 in the afternoon, in line for a coffee, surrounded by people.

Fascinating—absolute, different, gruff, tall, short, direct and liquid people.

I admire their jawlines—the shape of their eyes. Some have scars. Some have personalized their look in such a unique sense, one can’t help but stare.

I don’t stare in disgust or judgment—I am in awe. I can deeply respect the sense of self that has been reflected on the outside.

I daydream.

I wonder what their life is like—where those fine lines and deep lines and in between lines came from. Fascinated all the while, they are oblivious to me. They think they have blended. They think this is a herd mentality for all.

It’s not. There are others like myself—reaching for the extraordinary, in what seems to be the absolute ordinary—falling in love with every stranger that manages to draw our eyes.

It’s not that I care to possess, or dig much deeper than that. I just have the ability to smell the roses—the beauty in a stranger. The opportunity to uplift and ascend into a realm of appreciation and non-judgment. The perfect antidote for a bad case of self-absorption. The chance to see beyond yourself and embrace the we.

Take a chance—there is no risk of loss, but there is so much to gain.

In the lull of an afternoon spent idly roaming the aisles—take a chance, to fully drink someone in.

Relish it—expand your inner sense of unity.

We all deserve a moment to ourselves, lost within the raw beauty of another person.

Take the chance.
