Walk the Talk Show with Waylon Lewis presents:

What’s your favorite life-helpful mindful‬ book?

Today Waylon chats about some of his favorite helpful, mindful books—the kind that remind us how to enjoy life and be kind to ourselves and others.

When we are feeling burned out or uninspired—focussing on things that don’t really matter—it’s especially crucial to put some time aside to read books that inspire and re-energize us. They don’t have to be profound or complicated—some of the most relaxing kinds of books are simple, maybe kid’s books like Tin Tin or the Babar Books.

When we pick up a book, we can find that kind of spaciousness we might remember as a child, maybe when we were on summer vacations—a sort of pleasant boredom—or what Buddhists call “cool boredom.”

Boredom is part of the discipline of meditation practice. This type of boredom is cool boredom, refreshing boredom. Boredom is necessary and you have to work with it. It is constantly very sane and solid, and very boring at the same time. But it’s refreshing boredom. The discipline then becomes part of one’s daily expression of life. Such boredom seems to be absolutely necessary. Cool boredom.” Chögyam Trungpa

No matter what else is going on in our lives, we can always come back to helpful, mindful books for reading to find presence, peace and stillness. Then as we sit and learn and find ourselves again, we remember how we offer ourselves back to the world.

Buying a new Book is one of the Worst things we can do for our Environment. Here’s how to Change that.
