If frightening thoughts about our future under Donald Trump are keeping you awake at night, now might be the time to do The Work with Byron Katie.
I have benefited greatly over the years from doing The Work, whether to heal a difficult relationship or tame my own judgmental mind.
But now, Ms. Katie walks a woman through her visceral, joy-sucking fear of Trump and brings her to wisdom with her usual blend of humor, perspective and love. Ms. Katie reminds us, as she often does, that, “There is no way out but in.”
If you are unfamiliar with her process, here is a helpful, brief introduction: Before a guest sits down with her, they fill out what Ms. Katie calls a “Judge your Neighbor” worksheet (you can print these online and do The Work at home, too). On this worksheet, they write down their deepest, darkest, ugliest fears, thoughts and judgments.
Then, Katie guides them through these four questions:
Is it true? (Yes or no. If no, move to 3.)
Can you absolutely know that it’s true? (Yes or no.)
How do you react, what happens, when you believe that thought?
Who would you be without the thought?
