When the Light is Too Much to Bear. {Poem}

A post shared by annabelle (@annabelleblythe) on

we look

and search

we spend years running

from jobs

from lovers

from cities

from destinies

not knowing what

or where

will root us to this world

we are looking for Purpose

with a capital “P”

to please this society

drunk off fear

with a hard-on for dreams being followed

so we stand on rooftops

shouting into the black of night

“i’m here!

let me be here!”

we ask the stars for answers

we spend days trusting the current

going with the stream

listening to those who tell us to trust

and other days growling at sunshine

cursing the moon

hoping clouds will appear and cover her up

because it’s just too much to bear

this light

when nothing feels light at all

we don’t need it to be simple

we don’t need it to be easy

we just wish it wasn’t so hard

so we grit the white of our teeth

and swallow cheap wine

hoping we will wake up tomorrow

and it will all be worth it
