This is for you, if you have Suffered any form of Addiction. {Poem}

“You can’t keep dancing with the devil and ask why you’re still in hell.” ~ Unknown

Habits.

For some of us, it is a person or relationship. Some of us reach for a substance while some of us get our highs from behaviors or ways of thinking. Addiction isn’t a “one size fits all” kind of definition.

We reach for something—anything—in our time of need to help with the pain, to help us escape if only for a little while.

This is for anyone who has suffered from any form of addiction:

I was a pyromaniac,

Thinking you could give me all that I lacked.

I danced with the devil everyday,

Doing anything to keep the demons at bay.

I danced away the nights until I began to burn.

Danced and danced as long as my racing heart yearned.

I was miserable—case adjourned.

Habitually in search of my next high,

All the while, I was merely getting by.

Admitting myself into a different kind of slavery,

Mistaking highs for bravery.

Constantly pushing my issues under the rug,

Embracing the damn devil in that ever flammable hug.

I was a pyromaniac

Doing nothing but putting myself under attack.
