The Mind as a Matter of Mystery

The mind is a matter of mystery. So much goes on and on in it, so how could it not be? The mind is much more complicated than a computer. It is more complicated than some of the basic laws of known physics.

The field of psychology offers good insight in to the mind, but ultimately it takes the generation of each and every individual’s thought process to know what thoughts will generate. Like a music box playing music, songs are played as a surprise to start, until the gears are turned, representing introspection.

The mind is like a variety of boxes. It is like that mystery box that nobody knows what is inside. That is what a black box is considered. Knowing the input, but the not the output. That is what defines it.

When people think they know themselves, most are caught mistaken. Relationships are always give-and-take. That includes the relationship that we have with ourselves. The more time one gives themselves to receive ourselves, the better dialogue one will have with themselves, through this exchange.

The four components of self: The known by self and others; known by self, but not others; known by others, but not self; and not known to self or anyone else…. These are the four boxes on a quad chart that are filled with a variety of information. This is certainly helpful to consider while making assessments of oneself.

What should still be noted is that they are not permanent. They are not set in stone. They are in a state of flux, varying also by degrees of knowingness, always able to be changed.

Although some may have an input and an output, while not entirely being a black box, what mindfulness can do is clear up this information.

Mindfulness can bring the unconscious conscious, shattering the frozenness of the solid matter part of the mystery. Reorganizing your mind will not only help you understand what you do not know, but mindfulness also helps people to change the way other people perceive them.

“Know thyself,” is the great message of Socrates. Truly, a wise encouragement. The more people that do that, the less ignorant of a world that we will live in. In addition to that, it  is important to experience thyself, as well.

When people try to cling to a label, they can either be sorely mistaken, or they get so attached to it, that it does not change when it is important to release that label.

The best experiences are frequently surprises anyways. Think of the mind as a present to unwrap, in each and every present. That is what each moment in mindfulness is – a present being given as a gift to you to enjoy. Mindfulness is that temporary holiday, on your break from your daily obligations.

Truly, the pursuit of consciousness is a gift that keeps giving. Your mind deserves the prize.
