Poem – FRIEND

Let me be your friend.
Not just a lover, but a friend.
So I can love you for no reason
And in all seasons.

I can love you like there’s no tomorrow,
Accept uncertainty without the sorrow.
It makes today sweeter still,
To drink you in but not have my fill.

Let me be your soul-keeper,
Not heart-breaker.
And remind you time and time again
Of the beauty that lies within.

Let me hold you without chains
While you deal with all your pain.
And watch you soar on winds of change
With joyful heart, no loss or gain.

Let me be the cave to which you retreat
To lick your wounds and rest your feet.
And ’til you’re ready to take flight,
Let me love you back to life.
