A 5-Minute Grounding Technique for Anxiety-Ridden Minds.

I woke up this morning feeling some crazy energy.

I was still groggy from the deep and wonderful rest I enjoyed, but I could not figure out why I felt this edge of anxiety all of a sudden.

I like to call it my squirrel energy.

I’ll be running around the house, unable to focus, and not sure what exactly I am doing. But I’ll feel like I just have to do something. It feels almost like a burning ball in my tummy, and I cannot hear what my husband or kids are saying, although I try and focus.

Then I remembered: it’s election day! (As if I could forget.)

I instantly knew this was the cause of the madness I felt in my tummy. I am an empath, so I am soaking it up from all sides today, and it has me running in circles.

I reason this can’t be my own energy because I feel like we will be okay—whatever the outcome. I know good things are coming, so why feel nervous?

So, I did what I should do every time I receive energy that does not necessarily belong to me: I sent it back. Just like Amazon Prime, the energy that does not belong to you can be returned for free. You only have to know the return procedure, and you are set!

So I did what was necessary; I got grounded.

I have a favorite grounding technique, and since there are so many empaths and energy-sensitive folks out feeling the whirlwind today, I thought I would share my favorite technique so we can all have some peace.

All you need is five minutes, a chair (or a place to sit), and your imagination.

This grounding is a method to “call back” your own energy while returning energy that does not belong to you, back to whom it belongs.

Let’s get started:

Step 1:

Sit in your favorite chair or criss-cross-applesauce on the ground. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths—enough so that you feel relaxed enough to visualize what’s next.

Step 2:

Now, picture a cord or a cable. This cable is sitting coiled beneath or next to you. Imagine what the cable looks like, its color, and how it feels. See yourself picking the cable up. Reach down and pretend you pantomime picking it up. See the end of the cable, and take this cable and attach it to your root chakra. If you don’t know where that is, picture yourself attaching the cable to your tailbone. Easy-peasy.

Step 3:

This cable or cord is exceptionally long—long enough to reach the center of the Earth. Imagine this cable attached to you at the root chakra, and follow it down and see it firmly planted in the center of the Earth.

Step 4:

Now, picture all this energy—the nervous tummy feeling, the anxiety, the stress, the rushed feeling—and imagine it all being flushed down the cord, from your root chakra all the way to the core of the Earth. Imagine the cord is like a Hoover vacuum, sucking all the errant energy away from you, down to the core of the Earth. Once this energy returns to the center of the Earth, see it go back to its rightful owners.

Phew! Take a deep breath; it’s gone now.

Step 5:

Once the errant energy has been flushed down your cord, it’s time to call back your own energy.

But first, thank your cord; feel gratitude for it. Then picture it being destroyed. (This is important because you do not want any wayward energy creeping back up that cord and returning.)

Step 6:

Call back your energy. Imagine a bright orb overhead. Imagine it growing larger and larger, filling up with your own personal energy. Once it has reached the size of your arm span, take your fingers and tap on the top center of your head. This is where your crown chakra is. Imagine poking a hole in your aura so your energy orb can return your energy to you through the small hole you made.

Now see your energy pouring out from the orb and down into your aura, see it filling your head, arms, hands, torso, legs, and feet on down to your toes. See the orb grow small, thank it, and send it on its way. Place your hand on top of your head and visualize repairing the aura hole.

You are all set. You can do this quick exercise as many times as you feel you need to. I try and do this at least once a day. When I skip out, my anxiety creeps up to remind me it’s time to get grounded again.

I have even done this at the dinner table, and my husband laughs and asks me why I am doing yoga at the table. I tell him, “I’m not; I am just calling my energy back.”

It’s okay to do this exercise just about anywhere—even if folks laugh. You will feel better instantly.

I hope this helps my fellow empaths out there. Blessings to you!
