As I was listening, I became acutely aware of our interconnectedness in this life.
Even rockstars die. And the sons of rockstars experience profound grief. We all struggle with pain, loss, self-doubt, insecurity, and a soul-deep aching for someone who is gone. Wow.
Even if you’re not a classic rock junkie, you know the name: Van Halen. But, for me, the thing that hit hard was how selfish I suddenly felt. How easily I get wrapped up in my own whining and feelings. This was a slap in the face reminder that every damn day someone is going through it too.
These lyrics had me bawling:
“You’ve found a place
That’s better for you
Than this rock we’re living on
I’m so nervous
Don’t know my place
A life without you
I’m not ready to move on
No matter what the distance is
I will be with you
No matter what the distance is
you’ll be okay”
