Now, I have seen a lot of hype flying around surrounding December 21, and this is due to the largest planets, Jupiter and Saturn, appearing to be one.

This conjunction (when planets appear close to one another, kind of side by side) that is taking place is special because, although Jupiter and Saturn come into this placement once every 20 years approximately, they do not always appear to look this close to one another, and sometimes they are too close to the sun that you cannot see them.

Not this year.

We are ending this year with a treat for the eyes. From wherever you are in the world, you should be able to see these two planets and their moons, if you have the equipment, quite clearly for a few days. The last time Jupiter and Saturn passed one another in this fashion was in 1623, just 13 years after Galileo discovered Jupiter’s moons and Saturn’s odd shape (the rings).

It is thought by some that the Star of Bethlehem was in fact Jupiter and Saturn coming together in the sky, as it was during a “Triple Great Conjunction,” which is even more rare and is a result of retrograde action—this would leave the planets ample time to be a guide in the night’s sky.

We have an opportunity to just slow down the next few days, take some time, and look at the night’s sky. NASA is going to try and do a live stream, I believe, and there are other astronomers who are doing something similar. A quick Google or YouTube search should help you out. Why do we care? Well, space is astonishing and we are part of this solar system, and the combined energies are what hold us into place and influence our environment here on earth in more than one way.

As night comes in tomorrow night, it will be December 21, and in the Northern Hemisphere, it is our shortest day and longest night. It is the opening of Yule and a celebration known as the winter solstice. This is a time to gather together (obviously that’s a little different this year, too) to stay warm, help others through the dark night, and celebrate the return of the Sun.

This has a lot of symbolism on it’s own, and when you put in the planetary alignments, it is quite a beautiful time to drop into the self.

Winter can be hard for people for different reasons. What winter is great at allowing us to do is see the darkness, the shadow, and learn to sit with it.  There is nowhere to run from yourself in the cold, in the dark, and we are taken into a time of rest and assessment, a time of wisdom and knowledge.

Winter is guided by the direction of the north.

When we dive into the deep medicine of the winter, it is one that tells us to go slow, but it is also one that creates space for us to explore different levels of ourselves than in summer. The summer is hot and fast-paced, while the winter says “slow down and survive.”

As we enter the next phases of winter here, it is a celebration that the sun is slowly returning and life is slowly returning, this is where we enter the fetus stage of our rebirth process. We begin to grow into the truth of ourselves. We put down the masks that we wear, we see the truth within duality—that it is a falsehood used to divide and control. There is no binary, we are all here, as one, as many, united through this planet on which we live, beautiful Mother Earth.

While we have Jupiter and Saturn at play as we enter this phase of darkness, there is an opportunity to really step into your life’s purpose and close the karmic cycles that have been lived out for lifetimes. Saturn rules life lessons, real life, and karma, and has been regarded as a highly important planet since before ancient Greece. Jupiter rules over expansion, abundance, pleasure, and requires us to do the inner work to claim such things.

Both of these power house planets are rolling in on December 21, the longest night of the year, taking us deep into our bones, our blood, our own karma, and our family karma. Karma is not “you get what you deserve,” karma is working through what life has given you with improvement at each level. If we are unable to improve ourselves (respond vs. react/love vs. hate/independent vs. dependent etc.), then patterns continue to repeat and this influences our karmic cycles from moment to moment, and life to life.

Saturn in Aquarius is a game changer, but nothing huge is going to happen out of the gate. This alignment sets up society to make changes for the betterment of humanity. Saturn is acting as a collective lesson learner and Aquarius is that revolutionary, beautiful intellectual and forward thinking air sign. Aquarius is purposeful, heart-centred, determined, ambitious, and tends to see the world a little bit differently. Saturn coming into Aquarius begins our journey back to heart-centred humanitarian connections, ideally. We are seeing how fragile society has become and we are witnessing how global change is needed, and this placement is here to support us in fine-tuning those actions.

Saturn demands consistent action, it demands we show up and act responsibly. This isn’t a simple one and done, this is about stamina, hope, and long term changes. Saturn is a slow planet, so don’t expect to wake up and have it all together.

Saturn takes roughly 2.5 years to move through a zodiac sign and has been in earthy Capricorn and is now moving through fixed air sign, Aquarius.

Some of what has happened during previous Saturn in Aquarius transits:

>> Dissolution of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War

>> Lots of independence movements in countries around the world, including the breakup of the former Yugoslavia

>> Maastricht Treaty signed marking the start of the European Union

>> India began neoliberal reforms of their economy

>> White South Africans voted for political reform which led to the end of apartheid

>> Betty Boothroyd became the first female Speaker of the House of Commons in the U.K.

>> Church of England voted to allow women to become priests

There are many other examples out there for you to find.

Revolution and truth is what this brings, and it may be a little darker and challenging as Saturn in Aquarius brings forth new technology and innovations—we must ensure proper boundaries are here with more technology rolling in.

Society is shifting. It has been doing so forever, and every so often, it needs a little check back into place. Saturn in Aquarius lets us come back into alignment with humanitarian values.

Winter solstice welcomes a celebration and respect to the land, community, balance, and surviving.

2020 has been a year that will be taught in history for many reasons, and the great conjunction will be one of them. Saturn coming into Aquarius, at this specific time—I’m not surprised.

As we move forward, it will be up to us to stand up for those who need it and to change systems of oppression and to revolutionise the way in which we use technology once again. Who knows, maybe they’ll bring back Tesla’s energy in its full capacity.

Some will say astrology is everything, I am not one of those people. We have an opportunity to expand our own lives on an individual scale with this conjunction, and we have an even bigger opportunity to expand for humanity over the next 2.5 years.

I will be sharing more about the winter solstice and Yule celebrations on my Instagram account (@evalehman) over the next few days. If you’ve been enjoying these shares, come on over and check them out.

For now, I leave you with this closing statement:

We are cleaning out our closets individually and collectively; the skeletons will fall and they will be buried, and with that, the dawn of a new era will become us. We will remember the earth, honouring the ancestors. Witnessing the beauty of everyday life, we will remember that humanity, earth, animals, and planets are all one. We will rise when we rise together.
