There is a lot of trauma in the world.

I fully acknowledge this. So many are hurting, fearful, traumatized. Healing is a complicated process.

I believe there is some circular momentum we might acknowledge:

Fully healing from trauma requires a big dose of loving-kindness toward ourselves. Stepping fully into loving-kindness requires active healing through our traumas. It’s a little of the chicken or the egg conundrum. What comes first, healing or love—love or healing?

There is no magic answer, but I believe that as we sort through the messiness of our lives and our relationships, the real medicine, the real answer, is love. Love of self. Love of others.

When you’re feeling weary, reach for love.
When you’re feeling lonely, reach for love.
When you need an answer to a thousand questions,
Can you just remember that the only answer is love?

When you feel like crying, reach for love.
When you’re feeling angry, reach for love.
When your tender heart is feeling like a stranger,
Can you just remember that the only answer is love?

As you swim the ocean, reach for love.
When your heart is broken, reach for love.
If it seems impossible, and the night is closing in,
Can you just remember that the only answer is love?

Do you feel in danger? Reach for love.
When you judge a stranger, reach for love.
When you feel alone, like you haven’t got a friend,
You could just remember that the only answer is love.

When you’ve lost your way, you could reach for love.
Can’t face the day, dear one? Reach for love.
If you’re feeling wrapped in darkness, light just can’t get in,
Can you just remember that the only answer is love? 

When you’re feeling prideful, reach for love.
When you’re feeling crazy, reach for love.
When the walls you’ve built around you start tumbling down,
You could just remember that the only answer is love.

When you climb a mountain, reach for love.
When you tell a story, teach them love.
You can create change, make a difference in this world,
If you can just remember that the only answer is love.
