Creamy Avocado Chocolate Smoothie. {Recipe}

This delicious, nutrient-dense dose of loveliness is what gets me through a full day of complete chaos.

I discovered this Brazilian delight from a good friend who owns a cafe in Santa Cruz, California. This smoothie is low in sugar and high in healthy fat, so it tastes like a dessert, but it’s healthy, simple, and filling.

I probably throw these four ingredients into my blender five times a week—it really carries me through the day.

The flavors meld nicely and the avocado adds a rich texture that compares to a milkshake.

Here are four good reasons to try this smoothie:

1. Coconut water is one of the highest sources of electrolytes found in nature.

2. Avocados are loaded with antioxidants, specifically lutein and zeaxanthin, which are beneficial for our eyes.

3. Berries, especially organic, are also one of nature’s healthiest and anti-inflammatory foods.

4. Cacao or chocolate contains magnesium, a common mineral that most of us are deficient in that helps support our heart and brain.

Add the following to your blender:

1-2 cups of cold coconut water or any nut milk of choice

1/4 large to 1/2 small ripe avocado

1 cup of frozen berries (blueberries or açaí preferred)

1/4 cup of cacao nibs it a few tbsp of cocoa powder

Blend until smooth.

Some additions you may want to try: fresh pitted dates, coconut, flaxseed, hemp seeds, bee pollen, greens or green powder, or medicinal mushroom powder

I’ve found that since this has a high-fat content, it’s best to drink it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach and not in combination with any other food.

This one is a keeper, and it’s easy to modify so no need for anything fancy.

Just toss these simple exotics into your Vitamix, blend, and go—so healthy and delicious.
