What is Elephant about, folks ask me, regularly. I say—really, anything that can serve as a gateway into “the mindful life,” our slogan or motto since 2002 (we turn 19 in just a few weeks).

We don’t need a sexist lad mag to tell us that black Women are “now” beautiful.
Call this progress? I guess. Sure. Progress happens at every strata of society, or not—below are two related examples of, or not.
