World Kindness Day 11/13/21

Tomorrow is World Kindness day.  It is a great opportunity to practice some random acts of kindness with everyone that you meet.

“In a world where you can choose to be anything, choose to be kind.” ~Caroline Flack

Everyone needs kindness, and when you are kind, it is a gift that keeps on giving.  It is so easy to do, and yet it seems like so few people in the world are actually genuine and kind these days.  Someone who is truly kind is like a rare and perfect gift to the world, they shine a bright light into dark places.

Kindness is the reason that I fell in love with my boyfriend, because not only is he kind to me, he is kind to everyone.  It is easy to be nice to the people that you care about, and basically everyone does that.  But being kind to strangers, or people we don’t like, can often be a struggle.  My boyfriend is such a giving person, he makes it look easy.

Right after we had first met, there was a little boy living next door to him that left a bunch of toys outside overnight and someone stole them.  The next day, my boyfriend found out, and went and got the little boy all new toys that closely resembled the ones that had been stolen.  Most of us, myself included, wouldn’t even think of doing that.  When I found out what my boyfriend had done, I am pretty sure that is the moment I fell in love with him.

I had recently come out of an unhealthy marriage, and we were just friends at the time.  Personally I was starved for kindness, and seeing Gary’s random act of kindness for that little boy inspired and gave me hope that the world is still good.

When we are kind, we can turn things around for people who are suffering, and anyone around who sees an act of kindness.  It can be small, from smiling at strangers or holding open a door.  Or you can do something bigger like volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, or another good cause.  There are so many opportunities every day for kindness.  Let’s all try to be more like Gary and take the time to look around for them.
