7 Anaïs Nin Quotes for when we Forget the Power of Love & Desire.

I was looking for some inspirational excerpts earlier today when I came across a quote on love from Anaïs Nin.

Love never dies a natural death. It dies because we don’t know how to replenish its source, it dies of blindness and errors and betrayals. It dies of illnesses and wounds, it dies of weariness, of witherings, of tarnishings, but never a natural death. Every lover should be brought to trial as the murderer of his own love.”

I read that quote over and over again. I couldn’t believe how accurate and true it is. Regardless of the intensity of love, romantic connections never die a natural death. We fall in love and out of love. We transform some lovers into strangers and others into stars. The beginning is uncertain, but the ending is inevitable.

However, when I read Anaïs Nin, I feel that love has no ending. Even when we “murder” our relationships and fail to replenish the source of our love, we don’t easily forget the emotions that certain people engrave on our bodies.

But sometimes we do forget. When emotions dissipate and people replace each other, we might realize that every love is different and every desire has its unique journey. Thankfully, I’ve always had Anaïs Nin to remind me of the power and magic of love and desire.

She was a passionate lover who unveiled the mysteries of love and redefined the meaning of feelings.

Here are six soul-piercing quotes from Anaïs Nin so you may never forget what love feels like:

“I want to fall in love in such a way that the mere sight of a man, even a block away from me, will shake and pierce me, will weaken me, and make me tremble and soften and melt.”

What a mystery this is, desire. The love sickness, the sensitivity, the obsession, the flutter of the heart, the ebb and flow of the blood. There is no drug and no alcohol to equal it.”

“Electric flesh arrows, a second wave of pleasure falls over the first, a third which touches every nerve end, and now the third like an electric current traversing the body. A rainbow of color strikes the eyelids. A foam of music falls over the ears. It is the gong of the orgasm.”

“Someday I’ll be locked up for love insanity. ‘She loved too much.'”

Oh, God, I know no joy as great as a moment of rushing into a new love, no ecstasy like that of a new love. I swim in the sky; I float; my body is full of flowers, flowers with fingers giving me acute, acute caresses, sparks, jewels, quivers of joy, dizziness, such dizziness. Music inside of one, drunkenness. Only closing the eyes and remembering, and the hunger, the hunger for more, more, the great hunger, the voracious hunger, and thirst.”

“Through love, through friendship, a heart lives more than one life.”
