6 Words to Repeat to Yourself when Life is Exquisite—or Excruciating.

This past week has felt like a month, emotionally speaking.

Lots of ups and downs. Lots of conflicting feelings all happening at the same time.

Riding the waves of a loneliness I couldn’t shake.

Wanting to cry but not knowing why.

Being annoyed with what I viewed as people’s issues and shortcomings.

Being equally annoyed with my own issues and shortcomings.

Wondering where my motivation was hiding, and if it would ever return.

I’ve been dealing with big questions and unexpected changes and so many possibilities lately that I found myself wishing I could power my brain down like I power my computer down at the end of a stressful work day.

But brains don’t work that way.

So instead, I spent days trying to fight back and figure out unfigureoutable situations. And when that failed, I gave myself permission to be lonely and to be annoyed and to stop looking for my missing motivation.

I wish I could say that this helped, but the truth is nothing has really “helped.”

The big questions are still big and unanswered. The unexpected changes are still unexpected and no closer to being worked out. And there are still so many possibilities and no final decisions.

When I found this video from Sasha Tozzi, a certified hypnotherapist, I realized that maybe the universe was trying to tell me something:

“Here’s the tea:

It’s just like this, for now. Whether it’s exquisite or whether it’s excruciating, it’s just like this for now.

In fact, it will never not be like this now—whatever this is.

The good news is, nothing lasts forever. And the bad news is, that nothing lasts forever.

So if you love it, well, enjoy it because it’s temporary. And if you don’t love it, be with it because it’s temporary.

It’s just like this for now. “
