At this point in the game, most of us are aware that mainstream deodorants are loaded with chemicals and preservatives that have been proven to be unhealthy and unsafe, especially for daily use.
Knowing this, we gravitate toward products labeled as natural and organic.
But these products can still contain unwanted ingredients.
We can do better!
I’ve recently started making my own deodorant. I know, I know, you’ve heard about this being done. You’ve put it on your to-do list and decided that when you have the time you’ll get around to it.
That time is now, my friends. And guess what? It will take you a mere two minutes!

What you’ll need:
- Coconut oil
- Aluminum-free baking soda
- Your favorite essential oil (lavender, jasmine, and tea tree are good choices if you’re having trouble deciding)
- A small jar
I have never been good at following recipes while cooking. I usually just wind up throwing a bunch of things together and hoping it comes out okay. That’s the process I have chosen for this deodorant as well.
What to do:
Coconut oil is the base, so pour in a couple of tablespoons of this ingredient first. Baking soda comes next. Start with a few pinches and add more until the mixture is to your desired consistency. Add in as many drops of the essential oil of your choice, and you’re done!
Tips and hints:
With small batches, you can test out different scents every few weeks. If you don’t shave your armpits, a thinner consistency is more easily worked through the hair. It can also be applied between the toes for fresh smelling feet.
Carry on, you lovely smelling people.
