Jesus is building Trump’s wall.
Though I’d imagine it’s not quite what Trump had in mind.
Sightseers on the Hollywood Walk of Fame yesterday were treated to a six inch wall built around Trump’s star on the Walk of Fame. Complete with tiny “Keep Out” signs in Spanish and English, and topped with razor wire. And in an interesting addition a sign saying, “Stop making stupid people famous.”
The fittingly named L.A. based street artist, Plastic Jesus, created the wall.
One person called the wall, “The most genius vandalism of the star yet,” while another said, “It was the best thing I’ve seen all day.”
Others were unimpressed by the Trump-attacking artwork, with one user exclaiming, “A Trump presidency is what the U.S. needs.”
In an interview with the BBC, Plastic Jesus talked about why he had built the wall:
“I wanted to create a piece that drew attention to [Trump’s] potential policies,” he says. “I knew this week was the republican convention and I suppose I was capitalizing on the momentum of the convention.”
Plastic Jesus is a British born artist known for his provocative work, such as his parking signs that read, “No Trump Anytime” and “No Kardashian Anytime,” as well as a heroin-injecting Oscar Statue.
I think he’s brilliant because art imitates life, and finding humor in the state of affairs makes life worth living?
We can get caught up, taking everything so seriously—getting mired down in egotistical defense and offense that we forget how to drop the barriers and talk to each other. We can disagree and still love one another. We can disagree and still live together.
But we’ve got to stop being offended and start communicating or else we are doomed.
It’s 2016 and we are a nation divided between those who support a bigoted candidate and one who’s been caught lying. Lost in the middle of the chasm between these polar opposite candidates is a group of us who are dedicated to spreading love and tolerance, dedicated to making America great again. Not by sealing off our borders and running the country like a bankrupt business, and not by declaring WWIII as we start fighting with any country who doesn’t agree with us.
If we embrace education, dialogue, the arts, love and tolerance we can move forward and we can be a great nation once more. But we have to stop waiting for our leaders to do it first.
It’s time for us to take personal responsibility for the national state of affairs.
America, let’s take our country back.
