$ex $ells.

We need to start rewriting the narrative

Of how our bodies are seen on television

If we don’t show the honest truth

Then what we see will continue to be mass produced

Pieces of fiction of the female body

And young children will continue to wonder

Why her form doesn’t look like that

So we need to take back

The power

Of what we show and when we leave them to wonder

And it changes with every woman

What’s she’s willing to show and what’s left for fiction

It’s up to us to start changing the image

What we see now are human mirages

We have a good idea of what men look like

It’s not a secret— they don’t need to hide

Their many vast different sizes

“We sold ourselves for love, but now we’re free”

Dear Mr. Lenard Cohen sang to we

But even he did not know

The challenges in tow

All the obstacles we face

As part of the female race

So start talking and changing the pace

Of the discussion

Because it’s your body up for probation

Censoring

Is not an option

Because it just means they rule the conversation

He who makes movies

And he who funds them

Yet this affects all women

And all their children.

So I’m beginning to take my power back

By showing myself as I am— unabashed

This is why I show my bum

On Instagram and social media

To give the voice back to her

And to help show who I am unearthed

Beaten

But not done

We need these private media sectors

Because otherwise they would always control her

This is the start of every movement

Of real life women gaining traction

So I need to go and prove it

By being authentic

And sometimes creating antics

I’m shedding my layers

And ignoring your glares

No permission needed

No permission granted

But dear, it’s okay

I have no power to loose anyway.

I know this isn’t revolutionary

Many brave humans fought before me

Men and women united as one

To fight for human rights and freedom

This isn’t just a call to action

For men to stop abusing their positions

And for women to rise up in rebellion

This is a call to all humans on earth

To respect each other and do your part.

I can’t control what you do and think

When you see my image online and click on it

But I can control if you see me at all

The real women’s form

Unedited and raw

I can control how the greater population

Sees women’s bodies and for women to have the option

To shape your perception

And start changing

The conversation.
