It is hard to believe that this year is already more than halfway over.
During this quarantine, we probably experienced some emotional turmoil, deep introspection, and possibly made—or at least started—the process of making some major life changes.
I have been experiencing my share of emotional ups and downs as well. I was fortunate that early on, I was able to take a step back to assess what I believe is the spiritual significance as to what we were experiencing, which allowed me to stay at least somewhat grounded through this roller-coaster ride.
Although it may appear as though the world is falling apart, I believe what we are experiencing this year is a rapidly increasing shift in consciousness. If we embrace the concept that we are spiritual beings having a human experience in a materialistic world, the universe never gives us anything we cannot handle.
There is really never anything to fear because everything we are experiencing is for our greater good and spiritual growth.
Many of us are aware that a shift in consciousness occurred around the winter solstice in 2012. This is when the Mayans—as well as other ancient civilizations—predicted that an era would end.
At that time, we moved from the Age of Pisces into the Age of Aquarius. During the Age of Pisces, which lasted approximately 2,500 years, we created hierarchical systems to provide structure and guidance for our lives. This resulted in the creation of most religions, political ideologies, and the world as we know it.
This period was dominated by hierarchy and power because we believed that we needed something or someone to believe in. As we shift into the Age of Aquarius, the world is changing its focus—emphasizing freedom, personal responsibility, and doing what is best for humanity.
We have already started to see this shift with the advent of technology, which has made information more readily accessible, as well as a more philosophical movement in the field of personal empowerment and healing.
Many spiritualists believed that 2020 was going to be a significant year. However, I doubt any of us knew just how this year would unfold. I don’t think it was a coincidence that the start of the quarantine coincided with the beginning of spring, which was the astrological and spiritual beginning of the year.
The year 2020 represents seeing things clearly or having a 20/20 vision. Numerologically, 2020 is the year number four (2+0+2+0), which represents laying the foundation. It is also a master number 22, which is spiritually significant as the master builder.
Taken together, I believe the year 2020 is about laying the foundation for a better future, but in order to do so, we need to see things clearly.
The universal force behind 2020 is asking us to examine our lives collectively and individually. From a collective perspective, we are seeing that the systems we have created—such as the governments—are becoming increasingly more corrupt and no longer serving us, which is why now, more than ever, we are questioning these systems and exposing the truths behind them.
Individually, we have been quarantined, which has led a lot of us to reexamine our lives and determine what is and isn’t working anymore.
At the start of 2020, Pluto aligned with Saturn in Capricorn for the first time in 500 years, which indicated that we would be headed toward a major shift in paradigm. Several global historical events, including World War I and II, occurred when Pluto and Saturn aligned.
However, this specific shift in 2020 signifies a deep-seated change and transformation in systems—such as the governments and the economy—which will potentially last hundreds of years.
I believe 2020 is the pivotal year when we see some major shifts in breaking down old structures that aren’t working anymore because we are moving into an era of freedom and personal responsibility.
During the quarantine, many other interesting astrological occurrences began to compound creating an increasing intensity of self-reflection. A retrograde storm began with Pluto going into retrograde at the end of April (a retrograde storm is when several planets are in retrograde at the same time, which does not occur frequently).
When a planet goes into retrograde, whatever the theme of the planet, it leads us to examine subconscious material associated with it. Most of us are familiar with Mercury in retrograde, which usually disrupts aspects of communication. A retrograde storm creates an energetic environment that can seem emotionally intense, as we are all asked to examine things that may have been hidden in the subconscious.
At the beginning of May, we switched nodes from Cancer/Capricorn to Gemini/Aquarius. Up until the beginning of May, for the last year and a half, the eclipses were either in Cancer or Capricorn, which led us to focus on the imbalance in our lives regarding work and family. The north node in Gemini points us toward new choices and growth as well as speaking our truth.
Then we had a full moon followed by Saturn, Venus, and Jupiter going into retrograde. By the time summer began, we had a few eclipses, and then Mercury and Neptune went into retrograde.
Most of the spring and into summer, we were and still are in a retrograde storm and what can be considered a collective dark night of the soul. If you have ever experienced this, it is not a pleasant experience.
The dark night of the soul usually involves our deepest fears being brought to the surface in order to be processed and healed. Because the spiritual world speaks to us in symbols, I interpret the coronavirus (the word “corona” means crown or crown chakra) as a symbol of our spiritual awakening.
Isn’t that what is transpiring with this virus? We are collectively having an existential experience.
Most of us are facing our greatest fear—the fear of death. When we add to that the energy of the 2020 phenomenon, we are likely to experience significant emotional turmoil and a push to reevaluate our lives.
We likely went through every closet and drawer to discard things that no longer served us. We also possibly reexamined our career, relationships, and other life circumstances.
If we have done any personal growth work, we are probably aware that there must first be a breakdown in order to have a breakthrough.
Additionally, in order for the world to transform into something better, the old system must fall apart. Therefore, the world does indeed feel uncertain and precarious. If we are rooted in material constructs and the old ways of doing things, this shift will likely be painful. However, if we are spiritually aligned, there is nothing to fear.
It appears as though this collective transformation will continue at least until the end of the year. On a positive note, the year will end with two significant, positive astrological occurrences.
There will be a total solar eclipse on December 14th, which signifies a new beginning and finding truth in communication, politics, and media.
Around the winter solstice, Saturn and Jupiter will form a conjunction at zero degrees Aquarius, which signals the beginning of a new future.
Keep in mind that we are still in the middle of the storm, so please be kind and patient with yourself. It is more important than ever to practice self-care. Make sure you are getting enough sleep, eating well, and maybe getting regular massage and/or body work.
During this time, please honor the emotions that are coming up and be patient with yourself if you don’t feel as productive as you used to be—you are likely experiencing a significant amount of inner work, which can be exhausting and tumultuous.
Lastly, I highly recommend limiting exposure to anything fear-based and taking time on a daily basis to set the intentions of what you would desire to manifest in the future.
I think the best thing we can do is to focus our minds and hearts on love and light.
