A Gardening Guide for Beginners

We all enjoy a lush garden with well-kept plants. How do people keep their gardens so lush and beautiful? It’s not as difficult as it appears; all you need is some careful planning and research to get started. Playing with soil and being outside with your plants has numerous therapeutic benefits. A beginner’s guide to gardening can be found here.

WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR YOUR GARDEN?
First and foremost, you must decide on a style. Is it a cottage country style, a garden with modern landscaping, a modern or minimalist low-maintenance garden, a children’s playground, a kitchen garden, or a sea of flowers? It’s difficult to combine all of your wishes and desires, so set some limits, at least for now.

START SMOOTHLY
You should also consider what you do and how much garden space you want to dedicate, especially if you are renting. If you already own your home, go for gold! I recommend that you begin slowly and purchase a few flowers each season. This way, you can be sure to have lovely plants and flowers that your neighbors will admire throughout the year.
Choose the type of garden you want. Are you interested in growing herbs, flowers, bushes, or fruit trees? Or is it all of the above? Here are some pointers to assist you in making your decision.

GET SOME ASSISTANCE
Digging up the garden can be a difficult task, so if you’re just getting started, it might be a good idea to hire some help. A1 Gardening Sydney can help you with all of your gardening needs. Different plants have different needs, so it’s best to group similar species together to keep maintenance to a minimum. Know whether your plants require sun or shade, how often they should be watered, and how quickly they grow, among other things. You can plant strategically this way. Don’t forget to inquire about how to care for the plants you’ve chosen!

WHERE DO YOU LIVE AND WHAT ARE THE CLIMATE CONDITIONS?
Although the tropical gardens of Bali may appear exotic, you must be realistic and determine whether the plants you want to plant would thrive in Australia’s colder climates. Before deciding on which plants to plant, consult a gardener or your local nursery. Expert advice will be given on how to position them in relation to the sun’s position.

TIME, HEIGHT, AND COLOR
When planting a flowerbed, keep three simple things in mind: height, time, and color. Make sure to choose species with flowering periods that overlap to extend your garden’s bloom season. Combine complementary colors and avoid obscuring lower plants with taller plants.

SOIL AND FERTILISER OF HIGH QUALITY
You can buy inexpensive soil and flowers, but you should always invest in high-quality soil and fertilizers. You can buy plants that have been grown outdoors in nurseries because you know they are of high quality.

GET THE SOIL READY
The foundation of a long-lasting garden is the soil. Dig up your garden soil and layer it with any organic matter you can find, such as old leaves and grass clippings. You might also need to go out and buy some manure to give your garden a boost.

TOOLS TO USE

  • Digging shovel
  • Rake
  • Lawnmower
  • Secateurs
  • Loppers
  • Watering hose and sprinklers
  • Sun Hat and Gloves

Finally, spend some time learning about composting. Your own compost pile will ensure that you have enough to replenish your soil at all times. Compost adds nutrients to the soil and reduces the amount of water you need to water your plants – plus it’s a great place to dump your food scraps. It’s a win-win situation.
