Bring Ram Dass Lessons to Kids

Today I am reminiscing on my teacher Ram Dass and how Wee Yogis was the first ever kids yoga program to take place at the 2017 Spring Retreat on Maui!

This was such a special retreat because so many of us had the awesome experience of getting to share the magic of Maui, yoga, Ram Dass, and the offerings of guest teachers with our little ones.

Wee Yogis met each morning, starting the day with Yoga and Mindfulness Exercises.

We practiced walking meditations, found things that made us happy, played mindfulness games that focused on being present, practiced listening skills, and how to accept one another’s differences. We also sang songs about Ganesha & Hanuman!

I love bringing lessons of Ram Dass to kids in ways that they could really relate to and understand.

It’s beautiful how these lessons apply to all ages. You’re never too young (or old) to learn about presence, compassion, and loving kindness!

As a final and special gift to Baba Ram Dass and all of the Satsang at the retreat, Wee Yogis performed our Hanuman song live!!!! The kids were truly amazing in it!

Two yoga practices from our retreat that you can share with your kids today are:

YOGA GAME:

Do a Meditation Walk with your kids and look for things that make you happy!

Purpose

  • Teaches focus, presence, and positive thinking

Instructions

  • Go on a silent walk with your little one(s)
  • Remind them to look with their eyes and try to remember everything that they see that makes them happy
  • Prompt them at the beginning of the walk, by saying something you see that makes you happy
  • After the walk, sit down and discuss everything you both discovered

YOGA SONG:

Ganesha

Let’s sing together! Here are the lyrics:

Going on this Journey
Going on this Journey
Ganesha brings me luck!

Going on this Journey
Going on this Journey
Ganesha gives me luck!

He’s the little boy with the elephant head

He loves his sweets and his little mouse friends

Ganesha

He teaches us that

Wisdom and knowledge

Will give you yummy sweets, that you love

Wisdom and knowledge

Will give you yummy sweets, that you love

He goes around the world

Ganesha, Ganesha

He goes around the world

Ganesha, Ganesha

He goes around the world

Ganesha, Ganesha

Going on this Journey
Going on this Journey
Ganesha brings me luck!

Going on this Journey
Going on this Journey
Ganesha gives me luck!

May all beings be happy and free!

Love,

Jocelyn AKA Miss Smiles

Founder, Wee Yogis
