What to do if (when) you feel Sad, & even Depressed. ~ Waylon Lewis

“The first teaching here—from a Buddhist perspective, or just a human perspective—is that this is something we *all* go through. It doesn’t matter how much it looks like your life is together, or how happy you look.

That’s the first thing to remember—come back and say, ‘oh, all human beings go through sadness, through loneliness, and even everyday depression. This is part of being alive.’ It’s not just you.

You are not the problem.

On the other hand, the opposite advice: it’s good to take some responsibility. ‘I have done things that have led me to this point…and what can I do to fix ’em?'” ~ Waylon Lewis

Your Mindful Monday Video:

  1. Everyone goes through this.
  2. Take responsibility and determine what you can do to bring about change.
  3. Get outside, get offline. Ignore your phone a bit unless it’s directly interacting with friends and connecting with community. Maybe call your Mama or a mentor in your life who you respect.
  4. Connect with community.

“When we get sad or depressed, the first thing we want to do is indulge that. We go to our habitual patterns, whether they’re overeating or undereating or overdrinking, or whatever. You gotta back away from the habitual patterns.” ~ Waylon Lewis

You can start processing them and you can realize that they’re no big deal, that nothing is solid, nothing is intractable, everything is workable, and you can have a sense of humor and empathy both for yourself and for others.” ~ Waylon Lewis
