When I’m Old.

{*Did you know you can write on Elephant? Here’s how—big changes: How to Write & Make Money or at least Be of Benefit on Elephant. ~ Waylon}

~

When I’m old, will you take me out at night and let me gaze at the stars for hours and hours? Set me in a reclining lawn chair, cover me with a warm blanket, and I will let my mind race to all the infinite possibilities that the universe holds.

When I’m old, will you take me down to the beach so I can hunt for rocks and shells? Then, lay me in the sand so I can let it play between my fingers and my toes. I will roll over and lie on my back, close my eyes, and enjoy feeling the sun on my skin while I smell that sweet roasted smell that comes from lying in the sun too long.

When I’m old, will you take me to the mountains? If you can’t take me to the top, just let me gaze upon it, remembering those climbs I made when I was younger—the huffing, the puffing, the glorious beauty, and the expansive majesty.

When I’m old, will you take me to the movies? It can be animated, action adventure, comedy, or romance; it doesn’t matter. I will love it. And, will you buy me the big tub of popcorn and let me share your soda?

When I’m old, will you take me to the ocean? Let me float on my back, feeling weightless while I gaze up at the sky, listening to the water lap at my ears, tasting the salt dry on my lips.

When I’m old, will you take me dancing and if I can’t dance then wheel me around, and, if you can’t wheel me, then just sit me in the middle of the dance floor? Let me feel the beat and find the rhythm. You can dance all around me and I will just enjoy watching everyone else giving themselves up to the music.

When I’m old, will you take me to the forest? Let me gaze upon trees that have been growing tall longer than I have been alive. Take me in the spring to see the new buds. Take me in the summer so I can sit under their shade and hear the wind rustling their leaves. Take me in the autumn to see the vibrant colors. And take me in the winter when they are covered in snow accentuating their dark strong branches.

When I’m old, will you take me for a drive on a windy country road in the fall when the colors are ablaze and the nights are turning crisp and the excitement and anxiety of school starting again is in the air?

When I’m old, will you take me on an airplane? Take me anywhere you wanna go. I love traveling. Can we stay in a hotel too? I love hotels!

When I’m old, will you take me to the animal shelter? Let me love on those babies waiting for their humans. I will give them reassurance that they are safe and will find their homes soon.

When I’m old ,will you take me to the theater? I’d love a musical, but I’m not picky. Will you dress me up, put makeup on me, do my hair? Let’s have a fancy night out.

When I’m old, will you build me a bonfire and let me sit beside it’s roaring flames, while I breathe in the wonderful smell of old wood burning and watch the sparks fly and look for different images in the flames?

When I’m old, will you bring me ice cream? Dark chocolate with dark chocolate chips and probably dark fudge inside it too. You can never have too much chocolate.

When I’m old, will you take me to a nursery and let me hold the new babies? I will reminisce about the incredible cycle of life and be reminded that I was once this tiny. A long long time ago.

When I’m old, even if I don’t remember you or you don’t remember me, will you still tell me you love me and remind me that I love you too?
