How (if) to Relate with MAGA Family this Holiday Season.

Cheerful Holidays. Holidays are full of the best and worst of human nature, like any other. Traditions good and heavy, gathering, family heart, loneliness. Real conversation, and revision of history. It’s a time, then, to get past the external and get genuine. Treat today as your last, best day, and show up fully and honestly. Don’t let folks off the hook…including yourself.

Be kind, but be honest.

Be honest, but be kind.

MAGA/Trump-voting family + Thanksgiving, what’s your approach?

Politics aren’t something we can—or should—put in a private drawer and forget about or overlook.

Politics affect life and communicate values, and lack thereof. That a beloved family member is a loving mother or grandma etc doesn’t obviate their support of an assaulting conman etc etc who has active disregard for democracy or even safety of its citizens.

So, these Holidays, frank, civil, open conversation, listening, and repair is needed. And our MAGA family members need to realize that what they voted for is likely not what they’ll get—but what we voted against is likely what we’ll all get.
