I Hope you Find what you’re Looking For.

We are the Creators of our Lives.

I was early meeting my friend Becca for dinner in Boston.

Wanting to take advantage of the beautiful fall weather, I found myself walking along the pier in Seaport.

The breeze blew my long, dark hair into my face. I reached up with one hand to gather my hair out of the way. Seeing a bit clearer I caught myself nearly walking into a sign propped up on the sidewalk.

“I hope you find what you’re looking for.” The white letters spelling out a message against a mirrored backdrop.

I opened the camera on my phone crouching down into a low squat to line up the picture. I was surprised to find from this angle I saw my own reflection staring back at me. I’m not certain if the creator of this sign designed this intentionally or if shifting my perspective—both literally and figuratively—is what made the message click.

If you’re looking for someone to change your life, it’s you.

The previous year I experienced an unexpected series of losses. Rather than process or appropriately grieve, I plowed through the day-to-day, not really feeling much of anything. I misplaced a little bit of myself by disconnecting. By the time last spring rolled around I had settled into an apathetic survival mode.

I was existing, not living.

Fortunately, the universe, God, (whichever higher power you as the reader believe in—maybe it’s both) never allows us to live in these extremes for too long—if we’re paying attention, that is. I was fortunate enough to have people parachuted onto my life path who showed me that it is entirely possible to make the most of each day and truly live. They reminded me to be curious, spontaneous, and most importantly, be grateful for the potential opportunities each day holds.

I learned through them that it all starts with a shift in mindset. It’s up to us—beginning with the thoughts that we think, which guide our actions that translate into the energy we put out into the world.

Still turning over the revelation I experienced in my head from seeing my own reflection, I took my time walking along the pier.

I made sure to stop experience my favorite view of the clock tower glowing bright as the backdrop of the city.

A deep appreciation was growing, a feeling that I was exactly where I needed to be, as I walked to the restaurant where I was meeting Becca. We got lost in conversation with each other, with tourists, with the bartenders. We closed the bar.

Waking up the following morning I felt energized. I had a renewed understanding we truly are the creators of our own lives.
