Having a Tough Day? Just Remember that this Actually Happened.

I almost missed the 5th anniversary of the greatest moment in political history.

Happy Four Seasons Total Landscaping Day!

We’re living in a world that feels more cruel than beautiful, most days.

Wars are raging. People are dying from preventable diseases. America is in the midst of a record-breaking government shutdown, overwhelming corporate layoffs, and the loss of SNAP benefits. The gound underneath us—both locally in the United States, and internationally—is quicksand.

Nothing feels solid.

It feels like we’re sinking. Slowly, as our cries for help are ignored by those in power—we’re slowly sinking.

But if human resilience has taught us anything, it’s that we will not go down without a fight.

And fight, we have been. We’re fighting back, hard. But we’re also tired. And experiencing overwhelming emotions of fear, and anger, depression, and all the feels. We’re struggling. And some days are tough.

And so finding the glimmers? Finding the joy in the small, little, insignificant things? I firmly believe that we must lean into these things in order to get through each d*mn day as we look to each other for help.

In that light, today, I suggest to you that we celebrate the fifth anniversary of the now-famous and always-hilarious Rudy Giuliani press conference at the small business “Four Seasons Total Landscaping” rather than the intended, Four Seasons hotel.

If anything was an example of the ineptitude and ridiculousness of Trump at the time, in 2020, it was this. It perhaps still is. It was considered a fitting symbolic end to Trump’s first presidency. Today, I offer it as something to bring a little joy—a glimmer—to our lives as we revisit the idea that something as absolutely insane as this actually happened.

There actually was a press conference about election fraud at a landscaping company that was located between and around a sex shop and a crematorium. You simply can’t make this up.

Need a laugh? Just remember that this actually happened.

And may you laugh like Carly Aquilino, because a good cry-laugh like this can make any day better:
