It’s not an easy time to be a sensitive human.
Suffering abounds. I’m stricken by the way that, at least in the United States, our society is failing to care for one another.
And yet, I’m pretty certain doomscrolling is not the path to alleviating suffering. I don’t believe our brains were designed to absorb the amount of upsetting news that streams in from all directions—especially if you’re a person who feels things deeply.
It’s easy to feel overwhelmed and immobilized by the state of the world.

It takes a smidge more effort to get quiet, tap into the wisdom of our higher self, and discern how we might meet the moment in a way that benefits our own wellbeing, and maybe even betters the world.
Despite the deep concern I feel for our society, I still believe the world is brimming with goodness. And I have a lot more energy to take action when I’m able to feel that goodness.
So, I’m inviting you to step into a little sliver of that goodness with me.
On January 7th, 2026, from 1-3 p.m. ET, trauma-informed writing coaches Lisa Cooper Ellison, Kristin Sancken and I are offering Ignite Your Year: A Guided Workshop to Release the Old, Plan Your Year and Renew Your Purpose.
During the workshop, we’ll harness the power of guided visualization, soul-goal strategies, and creative support to infuse clarity, intention, and accountability into a creative roadmap for 2026.
To join us for this workshop, we ask that you make a donation of $10 or more to a charitable organization that supports those in need, a nonprofit writing center, or subscribe to your favorite independent media, Elephant Journal (or if you’ve already subscribed, consider gifting a friend with a subscription). Then email me a screenshot of your receipt.
In addition to participating in the Ignite Your Year workshop, you’ll also be eligible for Lisa Cooper Ellison’s 2025 Giveaway for Good prizes, which include manuscript evaluations, coaching sessions, and more.
The deadline for all donations is Friday, December 19, 2025.
Nourishing our creativity isn’t selfish—it’s life-giving. We hope you’ll join us in this circle of giving, receiving, and igniting a vision for a kinder, more creative world.
