Just like that, it’s already March of 2018! So, what does this month hold in store for you?
For starters, there are two full moons—one in Leo, and one in Virgo.
At the beginning of March, our emotions will be fiery and passionate, but we will feel them shift to become more grounded and earthy by the month’s end.
There is also a Mercury retrograde (and debilitated) cycle. So tighten up your technology now!
Lastly, there is a dreamy Pisces new moon, which holds the promise of a creative, mystical adventure—or maybe an intoxicated, unconscious mess if we aren’t careful.
Strap in folks—it’s March, 2018.
March 1
Today, the moon is full in Leo, which makes for a day of fiery emotions and passions. But many of these emotions are individualized, and maybe even selfish. It’s important to connect with a pure form of feeling today—something more selfless. Plan an outing with friends and family, in which you can share in the joy of being together with and for each other.
This full moon happens in the Nakshatra of Purva Phalguni, ruled by the god of delight. It is delightful to be the king, as there are many pleasures and joy that come your way. But the highest promise is to share that joy with others. Remember that today.
March 3
Venus and Mercury will be established in Pisces today and for the next several weeks. This will be a creative time, and a time of exalted romance and desire. But Mercury is debilitated here, so we should be careful with our words to avoid misspeaking and stay mindful to avoid getting confused about the “story” in our heads.
March 7-9
The moon is in Scorpio today, where it is debilitated. The emotions can be pretty stormy today, with jealousies and frustrations boiling over. We must try to keep our heads and hearts pure, perhaps by taking a few extra minutes on the yoga mat or spending a little extra time on devotional practices.
March 8
Mars enters Sagittarius where it joins Saturn for the next couple of months. This will get us pretty fired up around our principles and inspirations. It’s a time for us to put our teachings and values into practice, but beware that some contentiousness and even hostility around these teachings might show up. Take care with the conjunction of Saturn, also in Sagittarius. This may lead us to feel frustration with authority figures or existing teachers and traditions. To navigate this, we can evaluate what we are fighting for now and make sure it is truly worthwhile.
March 9
Jupiter turns retrograde, which may create some confusion about our teachings and life path. We may feel directionless, and as a result, seek simple solutions to complex problems. For the last several months, we have been trying to connect our philosophies and beliefs with our family, friends, and other people in our lives. We see this playing out culturally, in the political realm and on social media. We will be revisiting these themes now and over the next four months.
March 17
The sun and moon will come together in Pisces, creating the new moon in the early morning of March 17. This begins a 30-day cycle where creativity, romance, and spiritual evolution (all Pisces themes) will be the most important. It’s a time to connect with a more “metaphysical” self. But we have to be careful of escapism, or tuning out to try to avoid the unpleasant reality of life on Earth. Instead, escape from the false reality we’ve constructed in our heads into the true reality of the present moment.
This new moon happens in the Nakshatra of Purva Bhadra, related to lightning and inspiration. The veil between worlds may be very thin now. Look for signs and signals from above to be a “lightning strike” of inspiration on this day.
March 20-21
The moon will be in Aries aspected by Jupiter now. This can be an inspired time, full of purpose and action. We should pursue what uplifts us, with courage and enthusiasm. Be careful with impatience, especially with those who don’t agree with your vision and higher purpose. Don’t forget to look for allies, not just competitors.
March 22-23
Mercury turns retrograde and the moon is exalted in Taurus today. Mercury retrograde is a time to improve our speech, communication, and relationships by paying attention to details and being mindful of our use of technology. If we’re generally sloppy in these areas, we can see the mistakes pile up when Mercury goes retrograde. The real benefit comes from speaking less and listening more. Slow down and be thorough. Handle those things that need to get handled, whether they are “fun” or not.
March 24-25
Today, the moon is in Gemini aspected by Jupiter, Mars, and Saturn. This generates a lot of intellectual activity, but can perhaps result in a sort of “idea overload.” We will feel like we are exploding with ingenuity and new ways to do things, but we should beware of erratic and destructive speech, especially because Mercury is now retrograde. Try to channel your ideas into something inspiring today.
March 30
The moon will be full in Virgo in the early morning today, which is opposite the sun in Pisces, bringing a more practical and down-to-earth emotional state to the ungrounded and metaphysical Pisces cycle that I mentioned above. It’s important to balance the creative, emotional qualities of Pisces with the practical and down-to-earth nature of Virgo. But notice how you may be a little fussy over the neglected details today.
This full moon happens in the Nakshatra of Hasta, which literally means “hand.” This is a very practical section of the sky, where we take what we imagine and bring it into a tangible form.
