Mindfulness Poem: How To Practice Mindfulness

How to Practice Mindfulness

Measure twice, cut once.

Wood trembling over the decision.

Ten thousand hours.

Passion bottled in time,

capsuled sweat and tears.

Lifting up the sun

Mornings become sacred space.

Put down the longings for breaking news

and tabloid trivia.

Drawing the bow, shooting the arrow.

The bulls-eye expands for the dedicated marksman.

Cast your line, over and over,

into the dry creek. Feel your ankles being

soaked by perseverance.

A perfect circle is drawn

in a thousand errors before

lines meet in concert

with the Conductor’s wand

as the audience applauds the discipline.

Mind races to the edge of delusion.

Thoughts avalanche like boulders careening downward.

Back to the breath is the work.

Letting go, Beginning again

is the Practice.
