www of the Week

When I first began meditating, forcing myself to stay on the cushion for 10 or 15 minutes at a time, I was always astonished that when I got up afterwards and went outside everything suddenly seemed sharp and bright. I started to notice details that I usually passed over on the way to getting things done, and was struck by the contrast of colors and the shapes around me. When I was introduced to Miksang—the contemplative art of photography—I loved that photographers like Michael Wood and Julie DuBose captured that post-meditation clarity, snapping me into the present moment with their visuals. Scan through the photo galleries on the site, and then—whether you have a camera or not—go take a walk and see how many details you notice that you may have missed before. – Heather Mueller, editor
