The summer is almost over – where did the time go? This same question comes up every year in conversation with others. Many people are ready for the summer to be over, and some would have it be summer all year long if they could.
While Spring typically brings to mind new life, a fresh start, etc., there is something about the Fall that represents new beginnings too. Maybe it’s the kids recently going back to school starting a new grade level with a new teacher? Maybe it’s the perfect, sunny Fall days, when someone can walk outside and feel completely comfortable? Maybe it’s being able to have pumpkin flavor again at a favorite coffee shop?
Whatever the reason may be, Fall seems like an ideal time of year to start fresh. There are always certain tasks that people put off doing, either due to time constraints, or more likely, due to lack of motivation.
Here are some quick tips to get started:
- Start small – focus on one goal at a time, one that is reasonable/attainable.
- Keep a “soft” deadline in mind.
- Listen to upbeat/motivating music.
- Designate someone (spouse, friend, etc.) as a support system.
- Keep a reward in mind – once the goal is met, time for a treat.
The work itself is just as important as the result. Along the way, there will be a mix of emotions. It’s fine to take a break, but important to keep moving forward.
