The first New Moon of 2021 & the rare astrological Learning Triangle—there are decisions to be made.

Our questions won’t be answered until we’re ready for the truth.

On Tuesday, January 12th or 13th, depending upon the location, we will experience the first New Moon of 2021 in Capricorn and welcome in the dawn of being ready for the next chapter of our lives, no matter what it may hold.

New Moons are a time for contemplation, for meditating on what has been or what was so that we can set intentions for what we hope will be.

There is a magical auspiciousness to New Moons. An evening when, although the moon is dark and invisible, we tend to become aware of what it is we are needed to see the most. And this one will be no exception.

In Capricorn, an earth sign known for its hard work, diligence, loyalty, and commitment, this moon is all about planting the seeds for just that, but in a way that has a newfound sense of intentionality about it. We are no longer just letting things happen to us. And while we know that we can’t control the ultimate outcome, it is about actually sowing the seeds for the crops we actually want to reap.

Together—blending the energies of Capricorn with our New Moon—a portal of energy will be created, which will last until the Full Moon in Capricorn on June 24th. At that time, many of the themes that we’re still in the midst of figuring out will be reaching a conclusion or point of fruition.

But like with any moon, it’s not all about new beginnings and beauty.

In astrology, there is a rare, little-known aspect called the “Learning Triangle,” which is part of a bigger picture of squares and lessons that together come down to a final moment. This moment is the one when decisions are made, whether or not we feel ready—whether or not we have all the answers. But it comes down to our souls’ journey and the knowing that it’s time to up-level into the next chapter.

This particular Learning Triangle will bring in the energies of Venus, Mars, and Uranus, creating a deeply meaningful interaction of the divine feminine, masculine, and the waves of change they will be asked to ride.

Venus is known as the planet that rules the divine feminine, love, finances, and all physical pleasure. This is the energy of everything that makes us feel not just good but understood, accepted, and loved.

Mars is her cosmic lover, rarely coming together in the skies but instead being part of a celestial dance of divine timing. The ruler of the masculine, passion, ambition, sex, and on the lower frequency side, anger and jealousy. But this is all-encompassing because that is what life is about. Although, in this situation, it can mean that anger and jealousy are something that those who are unprepared may need to be contended with.

The real catalyst in this Learning Triangle is how those two energies come together with Uranus. Uranus is the planet of sudden and unexpected change. Think of it as the ultimate course correction. Uranus always knows what we need, even if at times we don’t. All of the changes that this sometimes inconvenient planet brings into our lives are not just for the better but necessary. We usually need to be pushed just a little outside of our comfort zone in order for us to take a leap of faith into whatever will come next.

Adding to the energy of unpredictability at this time is Uranus, which will also be turning direct on the 14th since being retrograde since August. Think back to that time and what you’ve been required to lean in to—what has been uncomfortable, new truths you have been asked to accept, and who you are now that you’ve learned all you have.

This is the energetic storm portal that we will feel opening this week. And we will be riding through it for, at least, the next week or so until the first quarter moon.

In the Learning Triangle, we will be looking at the themes that are associated with the process of recognizing the conflict, reflecting on possible solutions, and then deciding which hopefully will bring greater growth and peace to all of those involved.

The transit specifically that will be affecting this lunation is Venus trine Mars and Uranus. A trine is when two or more planets are within 120 degrees of each other, forming a harmonious aspect where problems and long-standing conflicts can be brought to peace.

Our first New Moon of 2021 will be an incredibly intense catalyst event causing us to reevaluate previous choices and to do the work—make the necessary decisions for the next phase of life that is already calling our name.

As we near it, remember that, at this moment, we’re not asked to figure out the answers for everyone. Nor are we under any obligation to make a decision that makes everyone happy. Instead, this is about us only taking on what is ours to carry and control.

Let’s reflect on what seems to be on the table in our lives—the things needing attention. Meditate on what energy we’ve given to it in the past, including what choices have previously been made. Then, placing a hand on our hearts, let’s think of the situation through the lens of our higher selves (without letting fear or ego cloud our vision). Then, we can let our inner self point the way toward what is next.

This is the decision that has to be made.

What is coming up right now for us is deeply connected to our soul’s evolution. Since we welcomed in the Age of Aquarius with The Great Conjunction back at the end of December, we’ve been slowly assimilating into this new energy.

During this process, our DNA is literally being upgraded by the new frequency of light that is being poured into the planet—and why so many of us are feeling ready for something we previously felt so intimated by.

Challenges may seem like blocks, but they are, in fact, the only doorway to growth.

And, the only things separating one from the other are our decisions, which are ready to be made.
